More Freebies

It was dorm move out day at my sister’s school and the rich (or unappreciative??) kids were tossing stuff in the free pile like there was no tomorrow! I grabbed a ton more (black wool slacks from Banana Republic, an awesome pair of plaid wool pants that are too small :(, an eyelet cami from the Gap, two (new) pairs of gloves, a winter hat and headband, a long blue multi color speckle cardigan {it will make a great circle scarf} and a very nerdy red trench for refashioning) that I haven’t photographed.

The person who threw this in the pile was from California. I found a deli receipt in the pocket.

I don’t care for shoulder pads, but my sister and grandmother encouraged me to leave them in.

This is a size 4. With full boning. It has completely changed my opinion on me in strapless tops. For the WEAR THEM.

How can you not feel fabulous in sequins? The weight alone feels luxurious.

Uniqlo Fine Merino Wool Sweater

Uniqlo Merino Wool Pulli

I’ve always loved this sweater, but couldn’t see spending all of that time to knit it to turn around and make it look distressed. I would like to add more holes and ladder some of the stitches down to mimic that look.

This is a silk/poly blend and a teeny bit snug under those ruffles. I grabbed this to let the girls play in it, which is what it will likely end up being used for.

I must thank my sister’s friend, Kathy, for hipping her to the potential of move out day. She ran into her in the lobby of her dorm well in the AM, waiting for the piles to form. My sister told me that Kat and I were a pair when I regaled her with the tale of my vanity table and the merits of Freecycling, lol. This led to us stopping by to see what we might find.

Good stuff, apparently.

In addition to these free yummies, my sis and I went by our grandma’s (after I met a Freecycler to give her a cart full of fabric and yarn) to pick up a box of pretty dishes I had packed away years ago. It was the box I was looking for when I found all of the stuff in this post. It is so uncanny. I was just thinking that I wanted a fancy teapot and there were TWO in the bag! I have to wash everything up well so I can photograph it. You can see one of the pots in yesterday’s post. We also raided her jewel stash (again) the necklace beside the teapot (I’m holding it above, too) was my grandma’s. The rest of my spoils were left in my sister’s bag by mistake, I’m going to get them from her tomorrow. And hit up the other dorms on campus ;o)

Prepare yourself for rhinestones, bangles and clip on earrings!!

Oh, some fashion design student apparently had no more use for this.

Pellon Fusible Interfacing

An entire package of fusible interfacing. Ten yards of it. Kids these days. *Shakes FIST*

    • Thanks, Shawnta! I’ve never really looked at their clothes before, but I will now! I like this ruffly dress much more than I thought I would. It’s not something I would have chosen from a store.

    • I know, right?!?! As much as the tuition is at this school is, I guess most of the students come from families with cash and goods to spare.

  1. You’re sure you didn’t steal somebody’s suitcase? ;o) This is incredible. I would have taken every single item, too.

    • Lmao!! Trust me, if I stole anything I would get caught, lol. I am the absolute worse person to take along during a crime. I never get away with anything!
I took everything that I liked. But, I just missed out on an entire bag of screenprinting supplies!
