Hat head

Here is the way most people wear a beret.
Normal (for me anyway) shot
Not bad. It reminds me of wearing my grandma’s furry berets around the house as a kid.

But here is the way that I would need to wear it in order to actually stay warm.

Wee-wee head shot

A little phallic yes?

I made this scarf to match the hat so that Missy could wear it if she wanted.Missy's scarf
Yarn for both: Knitpicks Sierra in Grape (stash yarn!)
Pattern: Wormhead’s Rollin’ Beret & basic garter stitch scarf
Needles: Denise size 9′s for hat, Susan Bates 10 1/2 for Scarf

THIS JUST IN!
Update on the dire yarn situation here at Knitology:
Here we have a photo of some lovely yarn
Yarn for Ram's Horn Jacket
The observant knitter would see that this is from Knitpicks (for the Rams Horn Jacket from Knitting Nature). Here’s the wrap up. I really don’t know what to say about Littleknits customer service. I arrived home today after a looong day and was elated to see a package. I was fooled once already so I checked if it was for me before I got too excited. Yes! For me. But I recognized the return address and I’ve never ordered from Littleknits before. It was my Knitpicks order that I ordered two or three days after the littleknits order. So I’m already composing the scathing email in my head as I walk up the stairs . I check my email and this is what I received from littleknits in the way of an explanation of why my order was shipped out TODAY!

Hi Wanett,

Thank you very much for shopping from our store. We did not have enough of Debbie Bliss Merino Chunky in chocolate and just got in more. To make up for the delay of the shipment of your order I upgraded your shipment to priority. Hope this makes you smile.

Best,

Sue

Now don’t you think it would have been helpful to have been notified of this DB Merino Chunky shortage uh, I don’t know when the shortage was discovered. I could have spent the last few days waiting for notice that my order was shipped instead of stalking the mailman for the last week. Yes priority shipping does help but guess what I paid $10 for shipping anyway so I don’t really feel that this makes up for waiting until now to notify me of the delay. I’m just saying. What would you do, read littleknits the riot act or take it in stride?

A distraction until my F*@#ing yarn gets here

26+1= How old should I feel?

Yesterday was my 27th birthday but I’m not quite sure that I feel like a 27 year-old. The truth is I’ve always felt older than my years, in fact my nickname when I was five was Grandma, and people were always calling me an old soul. What’s really weird is the fact that I look 19 to most people. We’re not really big on B-day celebrations but I always get some cash to burn on myself (I have to try really hard not to spend it on my kids). So I always buy what any knitter buys, YARN! Last year my hubby got me a gift certificate from the Point and everytime I wear the scarf I made from the Manos I bought I think about him.

So the yarn, I got a bag of DB Merino Aran for the Buttony Sweater by Oh my Stars, 4 balls of Fixation Bulky for yet another attempt on the hubby socks, and some Noro Big Kureyon for a chunky scarf (all on sale at Littleknits.com). While I wait for my order I’m trying to figure out which yarn to sub for the Rams Horn Jacket from Knitting Nature. I borrowed the book from the library and now I’m sure I have to buy it. It has the same beauty as Loop D Loop but with projects I’m more likely to wear. I still have some cash left so I was thinking some knitpicks yarn. I’m sure that everyone has seen what Brooklyntweed is doing with that Swish Superwash, who knew that it could look that good. I figure a really good knitter can make any yarn look good (Cosmic Pluto is another example of making knitpicks yarn shine). While I’m an okay knitter I figure If I take my time and work steadily on the jacket it can be affordable and beautiful. I know someone at the knitalong used Cascade 220 and it looked great so maybe that will do.

I’m so sorry that I missed Rhinebeck again. The pics on all of the Spiders sites make me wish I was there. I especially like Bronxie’s pics. Maybe next year (I said that last year). But on the upside I completed the Homebuyer seminar that entitles me to down payment assistance on our first home. Priorities. Let me tell you I was really tempted to go to Rhinebeck instead. Next post a finished scarf to match the Beret from last post (It looks really cute on my daughter) and yarn porn. Hell I may even post a penis head picture of me wearing the hat to make Gleek laugh. I’ll be sure to post a pic of my daughter wearing it to save the reputation of the pattern ;).

The hat curse

I have never knit a hat that has come out the way I envisioned. Exhibit A:Wormhead’s Rollin’ Beret.

It would seem that berets are not for me. My ears are extremely sensitive to air so I’m one of those people who pulls their hats way down on their ears. Therefore I have no use for a beret worn jauntily to the side. So that means I end up looking like a penis when I pull a beret style hat down like that, not the look I’m going for. So back to the drawing board.

In other news my Grandma gave me a bag of my Great aunts scarves. She passed earlier this year and we all wanted some little token to remember her by.

I thought the scarves would be good for dress up with Missy, but I was wondering if their were any other ideas of what to do with scarves?

Sad ; (

Well the list of semi finalists came out today and I am not on it, boo. I’m cheering myself up by listening to “Who is Johnny” by El Debarge from the Short Circuit soundtrack. Actually I went to TLA to return some movies (The Postman Always rings Twice, Ossessione, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, and The 400 Blows in case you wanted to know) and the fresh air did the job, mostly. I managed to listen to every sad song I had on my MP3 player on the trip. I’m not a competitive person by nature so I had to really talk myself into entering in the first place and making it through the first cut was a good confidence boost for me. I knew that it was unlikely that I would make it to the semi finals of my fist competition but I can dream can’t I. Well now to make improvements and start planning for the next competition.

Thanks for all of your well wishes on all of my news ; ). I was reluctant to post about that stuff but I felt good after I did. And hey look knitting.

I thought these colors looked great together until I started to knit but for some reason I didn’t stop and now I have a Target wave mitten without the thumb in colors that look wrong together, thoughts? I really should ask my daughter she is very opinionated and will tell me exactly what she thinks. I’m scared to let her know that I’m working on something for her, she can be relentless when she wants to. In fact I spent all weekend being followed because I let her help me cook. She asked to make shrimp for her Dad. To say he was beaming is an understatement. He can’t wait to go to work and brag.

Let's catch up, shall we

Well I should start with knitting shouldn’t I? I completed a pair of Fetching mitts for the little sis. She took them before I could get a pic, but we all know what they look like. Right? I knit them using some pretty green Debbie Bliss merino aran that I purchased back when the knitting bug first hit me again. It was being combined with some yellow cascade 220 to make Candy from Knitty but some recent news had me questioning if I would ever wear a sweater in that style.

Speaking of that other news. You know how every one in the blog world is pregnant, well I’m finally in on a trend. I was surprised to find out and nervous because my son had yet to turn one when we got the news. My (large) family was so excited that it was contagious and I lost a lot of the nervousness. Some of the other moms in blogland were expecting baby #3 also so I figured I wasn’t alone. Then my landlord informed us that she was selling the house, which lets face it we were going to need to move anyway because ya know two bedrooms, four people don’t quite add up. Okay no biggie we just needed to start looking sooner than we thought. Then!!
I had my first sonogram which is sort of routine when you’ve already had two children. But this pregnancy is so different from my first two that I knew something must be drastically different. Morning sickness doesn’t even begin to encompass what I have been going through. I have a boy and a girl so unless it was an alien what could be different? Well it could be and ended up being twins!! My mom is a twin and the family has been wishing for this since baby number 1. This up’s the need to move a couple of notches don’t you think?

So instead of knitting and crafting I have been trying to make it to class without throwing up along the way, wrapping my mind around the fact that we are about to become a family of 6, cleaning for open houses, and looking at a lot of real estate. Throw in taking care of thing 1 and thing 2, hubby, and sporadic ;) cooking and cleaning and you can see how knitting has taken a back seat. I have promised my daughter a hat and scarf for school so I am determined to start them today so on with the knitting.

Oh I almost forgot. I’m sure that I mentioned that I am a screenwriting major on here before, well I entered my first
