Well I finished Ruby in time to wear on Mother’s day but didn’t really want to go out. We stayed in and watched TV and hung out together. = ) I am really happy with the way it came out. I was nervous about picking up all those stitches but it worked out on the first try. I need someone to take a pic of me in it, I tried one of those mirror shots. I even cleaned the mirror first but I can’t bring myself to post it. I showed off the flash more than the garment. I have started a new object, the Lotus Blossom Tank from the latest Interweave Knits, but it’s not far enough along to even show.
In other news I didn’t finish anything to give for mothers day. I always get an attack of the nerves and think people wont like what I make them. This leads to a) not finishing or b) finishing and not giving it away. Guess which option happened this time. B. That’s how ruby got finished. I know I’m weird.
I also picked up a new/old hobby thanks to some blogs that I read (http://www.weewonderfuls.typepad.com/, http://blairpeter.typepad.com/weblog/, and http://simplesparrow.typepad.com/simple_sparrow/).I call it new/old because I had all of the supplies and I have actually embroidered before but I have never tried to follow an image before. I have to say it’s easier than I thought. Now Missy is pressuring me to finish it. She wants to take it to school to show her friends. I printed the image from the clipart in Microsoft word and I used Aunt martha’s hot iron transfer pencils and paper to iron it onto the fabric. I ironed a little tear away stabilizer to the back before starting. Is it bad that I already had all of these supplies in the house, the embroidery floss for at least a year, and have just used them all for the first time? I’m not alone am I?
I have also finished with my dye projects. The green is half arctic green apple and half lemon-lime kool-aid, and the other is half mandarin-tangerine and a mixture of tropical punch and pina-pineapple. The green is an attempt at self striping. The colors look much closer together in the smaller skein that in the huge one that it was dyed in. My PS partner Ashley and I had a deal to give it a try. We shall see how it worked out one these days.
I had a busy weekend. I should be mailing out my yarn to my partners this week. I wanted to send a little something extra but I haven’t decided what yet. Anyone else sending out something special?
EDIT:It seems like everyone is naming their yarn so I’m gonna call the pink/orange one Happy Slappy because that’s what came out as I typed the description in my Flickr account. And the green one I’ll call Ft. Greene after a park in my neighborhood that is filled and surrounded by green trees.
